The CritterStone Square is designed to lay flat, buried in a very shallow dugout in a plant container so that the top (illustrated) surface lays flush with the dirt.  However, its small size and shape make it easy to use the stone in other ways, such as incorporating it into a freestanding display near a windowsill garden or ash urn.
